Drawing from her course “Welcome to Mars,” Alicia Shao, Senior Service Designer at The LEGO Group, will showcase how speculative design, systems thinking, and storytelling shape our visions of the future.
Throughout the course, she delved into life on the red planet alongside students from the Köln International School of Design. She is now prepared to share the insights gained during this journey, recounting how she and the students unlocked their creativity to shape a new world.
By delving into potential futures from predictive, explorative, and normative perspectives, as well as highlighting the tools employed along the way, you’ll gain insights into the diverse lenses that enable us to anticipate, discover, and influence what lies ahead.
Furthermore, you’ll get the opportunity to engage with fellow enthusiasts, exchange visionary ideas, and foster connections that bridge the gap between the present and the future.

MEET THE SPEAKER
Alicia Shao is a senior service designer at The LEGO Group, external lecturer at Köln International School of Design, conference speaker, and most importantly, a Futurist at heart.
As a zealous advocator, Alicia is teaching in the area of future thinking and system thinking at KISD, she has also taught at Bauhaus University and China Academy of Art on the topics of circular design and sustainability, as well as speaking at various conferences on the importance of futures by design.
She is passionate about increasing future literacy and democratising the future through discursive design, and making futures a tangible playground for all.
